Mitchell Collection Care and Cleaning Guide

 POLYURETHANE AND VINYL FABRICS

General Cleaning and Maintenance:
To keep your Mitchell Collection faux leather product looking great, it is recommended that a regular cleaning scheduled be maintained. Spills and stains should be cleaned up as soon as they appear. Ordinary dirt, smudges and water-soluble stains such as coffee, tea, juice, soft drinks, milk, beer, and wine can be removed with mild soap and water. Use a clean cloth or soft sponge to gently wipe the stain with soapy water. Don’t stop there – it’s really important to remove any remaining soap solution by wiping the area with a cloth and clean water, and finally to dry the surface with a soft lint-free cloth or towel. Avoid cleaners containing abrasives, as these can damage the product’s coating.

Difficult Stains: Non-water soluble stains caused by oils, lotions and certain foodstuffs can be cleaned with 50% solution of Isopropyl Alcohol and water.  Rinse the cleaned area with water after applying with the alcohol solution. Dry with a clean, lint-free cloth.

Disinfecting:  A solution of 5 parts water to 1 part bleach may be used as a disinfectant. Wipe the area with a cloth and clean water, and dry thoroughly with a soft lint-free cloth or towel.

MICROFIBER FABRICS

Vacuum regularly. Regular vacuuming will keep your furniture free of crumbs, dirt, allergens, pet hair, and dust. It will also stop dirt and dust from accumulating in the fibers, and help to maintain and overall clean appearance. Vacuum the pillows and cushions.

Address spills immediately. Splendid has a built-in stain resistant system. Spilled liquid will bead up so that you can wipe it away. Most stains can be completely removed if attended to promptly. Spills that are not cleaned immediately will cause stains from watermarking, dyes, or food marks.
• Dab, do not rub, spots with a clean, dry cloth to remove liquids and water.
• For food spills, use a spoon or spatula to scoop up the mess right away.
• For mud, allow it to dry before removing the clump and brushing off the dust and dirt.

Stubborn Stains. Create a mixture of warm water and dish soap liquid. Wet a clean cloth or sponge with the mixture and rub the stain in a circular motion.

Dry and Buff the Fabric. A portable hair dryer can be used to dry the fabric. After drying, the fabric may have hard patches where stains were located. To soften the fabric, brush the area gently in a back-and-forth motion with a bristled brush or a clean toothbrush.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Chemical Cleaners:  Mitchell Collection products are used in many commercial applications. The housekeeping crews often use strong chemicals for cleaning and disinfecting surfaces.  It is imperative that when these chemical cleaners are used that they are rinsed off with a wet sponge or damp cloth.

Dye Transfer: It’s important to remember that certain clothing and accessories may contain dyes – such as those used on denim jeans – that may migrate to lighter colors of faux leathers. This phenomenon is increased by variations in humidity and temperature, and usually is not reversible. Take an extra step to protect your upholstery by avoiding direct contact with deep denim dyes. The Mitchell Group assumes no responsibility and cannot be held liable for dye transfer caused by external contaminants unless the product specification clearly states that it is resistant to dye transfer.

Sunlight: Faux leather, like most upholstery fabric, can fade and breakdown if left sitting in direct sunlight for extended periods of time. Unless you’re using upholstery that’s been specifically designed to withstand harsh rays, protect it by keeping it out of direct sunlight.
