Grand Slam Care and Cleaning Guide

GENERAL CLEANING and MAINTENANCE:  To keep your Grand Slam faux leather product looking great, it is recommended that a regular cleaning scheduled be maintained. Spills and stains should be cleaned up as soon as they appear. Ordinary dirt, smudges and water-soluble stains such as coffee, tea, juice, soft drinks, milk, beer, and wine can be removed with mild soap and water. Use a clean cloth or soft sponge to gently wipe the stain with soapy water. Don’t stop there – it’s really important to remove any remaining soap solution by wiping the area with a cloth and clean water, and finally to dry the surface with a soft lint-free cloth or towel. Avoid cleaners containing abrasives, as these can damage the product’s coating.

DIFFICULT STAINS: Although Grand Slam performance fabrics are resistant to most common stains, the dyes and pigments in some staining agents have the ability to create a permanent stain if not treated properly. To clean difficult stains from Grand Slam upholstery use a household cleaner such as Formula 409® All-Purpose Spray Cleaner, Clorox Disinfecting Wipes or Lysol Multi-Purpose Cleaner; or a commercial cleaner such as Oxivir Tb Wipes or Cavi Wipes XL. After cleaning rinse the area with fresh water then dry with a clean, lint-free cloth. If a ghost stain remains, use a solvent-type cleaner, such as rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol-91%). Rinse the cleaned area with fresh water then dry with a clean, lint-free cloth.

DYE TRANSFER: It’s important to remember that certain clothing and accessories may contain dyes – such as those used on denim jeans – that may migrate to lighter colors of faux leathers. This phenomenon is increased by variations in humidity and temperature, and usually isn’t reversible. Take an extra step to protect your upholstery by avoiding direct contact with deep denim dyes. The Mitchell Group assumes no responsibility and cannot be held liable for dye transfer caused by external contaminants unless the product specification clearly states that it is resistant to dye transfer.

SUNLIGHT: Faux leather, like most upholstery fabric, can fade and breakdown if left sitting in direct sunlight for extended periods of time. Unless you’re using upholstery that’s been specifically designed to withstand harsh rays, protect it by keeping it out of direct sunlight.

PROTECTIVE FINISH: Grand Slam has a protective finish engineered for enhanced chemical resistance. In laboratory testing, Grand Slam upholstery was scrubbed with the following list of disinfectants (300+ cycles) with no discoloration or damage to the upholstery. This testing may not reflect actual results in the field. It is imperative that when these chemical cleaners are used that they are rinsed off with a wet sponge or damp cloth. Trademarks are property of their respective owners.
